MailMCP vs the Gmail connectors built into Claude and ChatGPT

Your AI sends from Gmail one email at a time, without the attachment you asked for? Here is what the Gmail connectors of Claude and ChatGPT do today, and what MailMCP adds in 2 minutes.

What the native Gmail connectors do today

Claude's Gmail connector reads your emails and, since August 2026, can send them too, with your approval by default and from a single Google account. It only sees the metadata of attachments (name, size), so it cannot send a file.

ChatGPT's Gmail connector can send since June 2026 on paid plans, but one email at a time, each one to approve, without attachments, and not in Europe or the UK.

That is fine for one or two emails. It is a problem if you want your AI to:

  • Send a batch of follow-ups to ten leads
  • Schedule a reply for tomorrow 9 AM
  • Reply to a thread without losing the In-Reply-To header
  • Move client emails from Inbox to a Clients label automatically
  • Run inside a n8n / Cursor automation that does not have Claude's UI

MailMCP solves all five. It uses standard IMAP/SMTP, so your AI gets the same access as a real email client: 26 tools, attachments included, in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or n8n.

What MailMCP unlocks for Gmail users

Morning Gmail triage

"Summarize the unread emails of the last 12 hours and send a polite decline to the meeting requests." Your AI actually sends, in one go: no stack of drafts to approve one by one.

Scheduled follow-ups

"Send this proposal now, and follow up on Monday at 9 AM if no reply." MailMCP queues the follow-up and sends it automatically. Native connector cannot.

Smart label sorting

"Move all newsletters from this week to a Newsletters label." Claude creates the label if missing, then moves messages in bulk. Native connector: zero label control.

Multi-AI workflows

Same Gmail connection used by Claude during the day and by an n8n automation at night. One MailMCP setup, multiple AI tools. Native: each AI is its own silo.

Send with attachments, from any mailbox

Free plan. No credit card. 2-minute setup with your existing Gmail App Password.
