Yahoo Mail + AI

Connect your Yahoo Mail to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor

Yahoo Mail has 225 million monthly active users, but zero native AI integration — Claude and ChatGPT only support Gmail and Outlook. MailMCP bridges your Yahoo mailbox to any AI via the MCP protocol — setup takes 5 minutes including the app password.

Yahoo Mail users are left out of the AI revolution

Yahoo Mail is one of the oldest and largest webmail providers in the world, with hundreds of millions of users still relying on @yahoo.com, @ymail.com, @rocketmail.com or @yahoo.fr addresses. Yet when they try to connect their inbox to Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor, they discover these AI tools only support Gmail and Outlook 365 natively. Yahoo users are completely excluded — until MailMCP.

The Yahoo problem

  • Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor have no Yahoo connector
  • Yahoo blocks regular passwords for third-party apps
  • App password generation is buried in account settings
  • Multiple Yahoo domains (yahoo.com, ymail.com, rocketmail.com)

The MailMCP solution

  • Connects Yahoo imap.mail.yahoo.com to any MCP-compatible AI
  • Works with all Yahoo variants: yahoo.com, ymail.com, rocketmail.com, yahoo.fr
  • Step-by-step Yahoo app password tutorial included
  • Real sending, not just drafts — full Yahoo Mail control

Yahoo-specific setup and tips

Yahoo accounts have specific security requirements you should know before connecting to AI.

Generate a Yahoo app password (mandatory)

Since October 2022, Yahoo no longer allows regular passwords for IMAP/SMTP. To generate an app password: log in at login.yahoo.com, click your name in the top right corner, go to Account Info > Account Security. If 2-step verification is not active, enable it first. Then click Generate app password, name it MailMCP, and copy the 16-character code immediately — Yahoo will not show it again. Paste this code into MailMCP instead of your regular password.

Yahoo Mail Plus and Yahoo Mail Pro

Yahoo Mail Plus and Yahoo Mail Pro (paid plans) work exactly the same way with MailMCP — same IMAP/SMTP servers, same app password requirement. The premium plans give you ad-free experience, larger storage, and slightly higher SMTP rate limits, but no special connection setup is needed.

Yahoo SMTP rate limits

Yahoo enforces rate limits on outgoing emails to prevent spam — typically around 500 emails per day for free accounts and up to 1000 for paid Plus/Pro plans. For normal AI-assisted email usage (replies, follow-ups, scheduling), these limits are virtually never reached. If you plan high-volume bulk sending, consider a dedicated transactional service instead.

Connection errors and troubleshooting

If you get an "authentication failed" error: (1) make sure you are using your Yahoo app password — not your regular password — (2) check that 2-step verification is enabled on your Yahoo account, (3) regenerate a new app password if needed. If the connection times out, your firewall or ISP may block port 993/465 — try from another network. App passwords can be revoked anytime from your Yahoo Account Security page.

Frequently asked questions

What are the IMAP/SMTP settings for Yahoo Mail?
Yahoo Mail uses imap.mail.yahoo.com for IMAP (port 993, SSL/TLS) and smtp.mail.yahoo.com for SMTP (port 465, SSL/TLS). Your username is your full email address. You must use a Yahoo app password — not your regular password — since Yahoo disabled less secure app access in October 2022.
Why does Yahoo require an app password instead of my regular one?
Since October 2022, Yahoo no longer accepts regular passwords for IMAP, POP3 or SMTP connections. This is a security measure to protect your main account password. App passwords are 16-character codes you generate in your Yahoo Account Security settings, dedicated to specific apps. They can be revoked individually without changing your main password. MailMCP uses an app password to connect via IMAP/SMTP.
How do I generate a Yahoo app password?
Log in at login.yahoo.com, click your name in the top right, go to Account Info > Account Security. Click Generate app password (you may need to enable 2-step verification first if not already active). Enter MailMCP as the app name, click Generate, and copy the 16-character password immediately — Yahoo will not show it again. Paste it into MailMCP when adding your Yahoo mailbox.
Does MailMCP work with @ymail.com, @rocketmail.com or @yahoo.fr addresses?
Yes. All Yahoo Mail variants — yahoo.com, yahoo.fr, yahoo.co.uk, ymail.com, rocketmail.com — use the same IMAP/SMTP servers (imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com). MailMCP connects to all of them the same way. If you have multiple Yahoo addresses, you can add each as a separate mailbox.
Does Yahoo limit the number of emails sent via SMTP?
Yes. Yahoo Mail enforces SMTP rate limits to prevent spam — typically around 500 emails per day for free accounts and up to 1000 for Yahoo Mail Plus. For normal AI-assisted email usage (replies, follow-ups, scheduling), these limits are rarely reached. If you plan high-volume automation, monitor your usage in your Yahoo account.
Why cannot I connect my Yahoo Mail to Claude or ChatGPT directly?
Claude and ChatGPT only offer native connectors for Gmail and Outlook 365. Yahoo Mail uses standard IMAP/SMTP which these AI tools do not support natively. MailMCP bridges the gap by exposing your Yahoo mailbox via the MCP protocol, making it accessible to any MCP-compatible AI — including Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf and n8n.

Give your Yahoo Mail the power of AI

Free account, 5-minute setup including the Yahoo app password. Connect your @yahoo.com, @ymail.com, @rocketmail.com or @yahoo.fr mailbox to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP-compatible AI. No more copy-pasting emails into your AI tool.
