Yahoo Mail has 225 million monthly active users, but zero native AI integration — Claude and ChatGPT only support Gmail and Outlook. MailMCP bridges your Yahoo mailbox to any AI via the MCP protocol — setup takes 5 minutes including the app password.
Yahoo Mail is one of the oldest and largest webmail providers in the world, with hundreds of millions of users still relying on @yahoo.com, @ymail.com, @rocketmail.com or @yahoo.fr addresses. Yet when they try to connect their inbox to Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor, they discover these AI tools only support Gmail and Outlook 365 natively. Yahoo users are completely excluded — until MailMCP.
Here are the exact settings to connect your Yahoo Mail. Remember to generate an app password first — Yahoo blocks regular passwords for IMAP/SMTP since October 2022.
These settings work for all Yahoo variants: @yahoo.com, @yahoo.fr, @yahoo.co.uk, @ymail.com and @rocketmail.com.
Yahoo accounts have specific security requirements you should know before connecting to AI.
Since October 2022, Yahoo no longer allows regular passwords for IMAP/SMTP. To generate an app password: log in at login.yahoo.com, click your name in the top right corner, go to Account Info > Account Security. If 2-step verification is not active, enable it first. Then click Generate app password, name it MailMCP, and copy the 16-character code immediately — Yahoo will not show it again. Paste this code into MailMCP instead of your regular password.
Yahoo Mail Plus and Yahoo Mail Pro (paid plans) work exactly the same way with MailMCP — same IMAP/SMTP servers, same app password requirement. The premium plans give you ad-free experience, larger storage, and slightly higher SMTP rate limits, but no special connection setup is needed.
Yahoo enforces rate limits on outgoing emails to prevent spam — typically around 500 emails per day for free accounts and up to 1000 for paid Plus/Pro plans. For normal AI-assisted email usage (replies, follow-ups, scheduling), these limits are virtually never reached. If you plan high-volume bulk sending, consider a dedicated transactional service instead.
If you get an "authentication failed" error: (1) make sure you are using your Yahoo app password — not your regular password — (2) check that 2-step verification is enabled on your Yahoo account, (3) regenerate a new app password if needed. If the connection times out, your firewall or ISP may block port 993/465 — try from another network. App passwords can be revoked anytime from your Yahoo Account Security page.
From Yahoo IMAP to AI-powered email management in about 5 minutes.
Log in to Yahoo, go to Account Security, enable 2-step verification if needed, then click Generate app password. Name it MailMCP and copy the 16-character code. This is a one-time step.
Go to MailMCP.io, sign up for free, then add your Yahoo email address. Paste the app password you just generated. Enter the servers imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. The connection is tested instantly.
Toggle MCP access on your Yahoo mailbox, copy the server URL, and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP-compatible tool. Authorize via OAuth2 and your AI can now read, send and manage your Yahoo emails.
Your MCP server URL:
https://mailmcp.io/mcp/abc123-def456
