Common OVH issues and how to fix them

Connecting an OVH email can sometimes hit roadblocks. Here are the most common issues and their solutions.

2FA is blocking IMAP access

If you have enabled two-factor authentication on your OVH account, your main password will be rejected by IMAP clients. Solution: go to your OVH Webmail, navigate to Security > Application passwords, create a new app password for MailMCP, and use that instead of your main password. This dedicated password bypasses 2FA while keeping your account secure.

Firewall or antivirus blocking ports 993/465

Some corporate networks or antivirus software block IMAP/SMTP ports. MailMCP connects to your OVH server from its own cloud servers, so local firewalls do not affect the connection. If you get a connection timeout during the test, make sure your OVH account is active and that the IMAP service is enabled in your OVH control panel under Email > Manage > Protocols.

Wrong password or account locked

OVH may temporarily lock your email account after multiple failed login attempts. If your password is correct but the connection fails, wait 15 minutes and try again. You can also reset your email password from the OVH Manager under Email > Manage > Change password. Make sure you are using the full email address as the username, not just the part before the @.

What are the IMAP/SMTP settings for OVH email?

OVH uses ssl0.ovh.net for both IMAP (port 993, SSL/TLS) and SMTP (port 465, SSL/TLS). Your username is your full email address (e.g. contact@@yourdomain.com). These settings work for all OVH email plans including MX Plan, Email Pro and Exchange.

Why cannot I connect my OVH email to Claude or ChatGPT directly?

Claude and ChatGPT only offer native connectors for Gmail and Outlook 365. OVH emails use standard IMAP/SMTP which these AI tools do not support natively. MailMCP bridges the gap by exposing your OVH mailbox via the MCP protocol, making it accessible to any MCP-compatible AI.

Do I need an OVH app password to use MailMCP?
