Orange-specific setup and tips

Orange email accounts have specific requirements you should know before connecting to AI.

Enable IMAP access in your Orange account

Orange disables IMAP access by default. To enable it: log in to your Orange account at orange.fr, click on your email icon, go to Settings (the gear icon), find "POP/IMAP" or "Synchronisation" in the menu, and toggle IMAP to "Enabled" or "Actif". Save and wait a few minutes for the change to take effect. Without this step, no external email client — including MailMCP — can connect to your Orange mailbox.

@orange.fr and @wanadoo.fr addresses

If you have had your Orange internet subscription for a long time, you may still have a @wanadoo.fr email address. These legacy addresses use the same IMAP and SMTP servers as @orange.fr (imap.orange.fr and smtp.orange.fr). In MailMCP, simply enter your @wanadoo.fr address as the username and it will work. You can also add both your @orange.fr and @wanadoo.fr addresses as separate mailboxes if you use both.

Orange security settings

Orange has enhanced its security settings in recent years. If you get a "password rejected" error when connecting, check that you are using your Orange email password (not your Orange customer area password — they can be different). Also check in your Orange account security settings that "Access for less secure apps" or similar setting is enabled. If you recently changed your Orange password, wait 15 minutes before trying to connect with MailMCP.

What are the IMAP/SMTP settings for Orange email?

Orange uses imap.orange.fr for IMAP (port 993, SSL/TLS) and smtp.orange.fr for SMTP (port 465, SSL/TLS). Your username is your full email address (@orange.fr or @wanadoo.fr). You must enable IMAP access in your Orange account settings before connecting.

Does MailMCP work with @wanadoo.fr addresses?

Yes. @wanadoo.fr addresses are legacy Orange email addresses that still work with the same IMAP/SMTP servers (imap.orange.fr and smtp.orange.fr). MailMCP connects to them exactly the same way as @orange.fr addresses. If you have both, you can add each one as a separate mailbox in MailMCP.

Why do I need to enable IMAP on my Orange account?

Orange disables IMAP access by default on all email accounts. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access. To enable it, log in to your Orange account at orange.fr, go to your Mail settings, find the POP/IMAP section, and toggle IMAP to enabled.
