Does MailMCP work with Outlook.com (free Microsoft email)?

Yes. Outlook.com personal accounts are supported via outlook.office365.com (IMAP 993, SSL/TLS) and smtp.office365.com (SMTP 587, STARTTLS). You may need to enable IMAP access in Outlook.com settings under Mail > Sync email.

Does MailMCP work with Microsoft 365 business accounts?

Yes. Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) business accounts work out of the box. Your IT admin must allow IMAP access in the Exchange Admin Center > Recipients > Mailboxes > Manage email apps.

Does MailMCP work with Office 365?

Yes. Office 365 is the legacy name (Microsoft rebranded to Microsoft 365 in 2020). The infrastructure is identical and MailMCP works the same way. If you still have an "@yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com" or custom-domain Office 365 mailbox, just add it normally.

Does MailMCP work with Hotmail and Live.com?

Yes. Hotmail.com and Live.com accounts were migrated to Outlook.com in 2013 and use the same outlook.office365.com IMAP/SMTP servers. MailMCP supports all of them.

Do I need a password or an App Password?

No. Microsoft has switched off password sign-in for IMAP and SMTP: neither your usual password nor an App Password works anymore. You connect with the "Sign in with Microsoft" button and approve access on Microsoft's own page — MailMCP never sees your password.

What about shared Microsoft 365 mailboxes (support@, sales@)?

Not yet. The "Sign in with Microsoft" connection gives access to the mailbox of the account you sign in with, so shared mailboxes cannot be added for now. A dedicated mailbox with its own sign-in (for example a licensed support@ account) works normally. Contact us if you need shared mailboxes.

What the native Outlook connectors do today

Claude's Microsoft 365 connector reads your emails and their attachments. Since July 2026 it can also send, but only once a Microsoft 365 administrator has enabled its write tools, and never with an attachment.

ChatGPT's Outlook connector sends one email at a time, each one to approve, without attachments, and not in Europe or the UK. Each connector only works in its own AI: Claude's in Claude, ChatGPT's in ChatGPT.
