What is an Outlook MCP server?

Does it work with Microsoft 365 business accounts?

Yes. MailMCP works with personal Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 business accounts using outlook.office365.com (IMAP 993, SSL/TLS) and smtp.office365.com (SMTP 587, STARTTLS). Your Microsoft 365 admin may need to enable IMAP access for the mailbox.

Do I need a Microsoft App Password?

If Multi-Factor Authentication is enabled on your Microsoft account (now mandatory for most Microsoft 365 tenants), yes. Go to account.microsoft.com > Security > Advanced security options > App passwords. Paste the generated password in MailMCP.

Is Claude Outlook connector better or is MailMCP?

Claude native Outlook connector is read-only with drafts. It cannot send, schedule, create folders or flag messages. MailMCP is a real Outlook MCP server exposing 15 tools including send, schedule, move, create_folder, flag — full email control.

Does it support shared mailboxes in Microsoft 365?

Yes. A shared mailbox in Microsoft 365 can be added to MailMCP using the shared email address and an App Password from a user with delegated access. Same IMAP/SMTP settings as a regular mailbox.
